We’d like to tell you more about our programs, events, teacher trainings and certifications
In addition to our flagship activities including our 3 magazine imprints and our series on VoiceAmerica, each of our Directors leads specific programs reaching out from their areas of passion and expertise. These current directors of The Interspiritual Dialogue (ISD) have come together in step wise fashion the last twenty years.
All of our recent activities with radio and magazine media (for more, see About Light on Light) including the Light on Light Family of Magazines and The Convergence Series on VoiceAmerica are deeply rooted in all the global spiritualities—East, West, North and South, as well as with the perennial philosophies and the activities and vision of modern science.
This, and our association with major historical spiritual and activist figures affords us a unique opportunity to sponsor, nurture, and certify diverse spiritual programs and activities. Our initial vision for these parses out through the specialties and expertise of our major directors, who are also our team of editors at Light on Light and our hosts on VoiceAmerica.
Hosting Interspiritual Discussions and Events

Global Interspiritual Activities of Dr. Kurt Johnson and a co-founder, with Br. Wayne Teasdale of ISD, and other Directors of ISD.
Yoga, Lifestyle, and Teacher Training activities of Karuna carried out with Light on Kundalini (LOK). ISD, with its extensive historical background with all religions and particularly with the vedic traditions of Yoga, and many of it’s famous founders, will underwrite the programs and certifications from these activities through Karuna and LOK. These join our many activities to date at Karuna’s Hacienda de Guru Ram Das in Gold Hill Colorado.

Yoga and Lifestyle Teacher Training led by Karuna
Light on Light and ISD are happy to respond to years of requests and sponsor, and endorse, certifications for, a Yoga and Lifestyle Teacher Training program led by Karuna. This will unfold in 2020, along with a Yoga and Lifestyle manual and Teacher Training and Certification program.
These will be effectuated through a combination of in-person, online, and direct video contact, sessions along with integration with her longer retreas and overseas residential events.
Program Background
As noted in the “History of The Interspiritual Dialogue” our backgrounding in the traditions that underpin the world’s yoga traditions are particularly strong, as we have been a major part of the East-West dialogue of our world’s great traditions for nearly forty years and our associations have included numerous of the most major leaders across these traditions and their spiritual practices. We have followed on these decades of engagement in the world yoga community by our partnering our media, unconditionally, for promotion of the world yoga community, particularly through our participation with the Committee for the International Day of Yoga at the United Nations (see Special Issues from June 2018 and 2019 online).
Karuna began programs with the partnerships that are now a part of Light on Light over ten years ago. These have included joint programs of the interspiritual community, especially across it affiliations with the United Nations community and this has included conferences, retreats, events and initiatives internationally. These continue annually today on four continents. Major aspects of Karuna’s participation in these activities are found throughout the issues of the Light on Light family of magazines.
Her teaching and other activities out of her homebase in Boulder, Colorado, have included regular weekly classes, private yoga, meditation and personal and spiritual directions sessions and the annual retreat for her community which is held at Blue Spirit, near Nosara, Costa Rica. To all this, Karuna brings her certifications in Yoga, which are across numerous of the yogic schools but most particularly Kundalini Yoga which is her specialty. Karuna’s Certifications
Karuna’s certifications include multiple Level 1 certifications through The Kundalini Research Institute, along with all their Level 2 certifications and diverse participations in their expanding Level 3 programs. These include eight Level I certification programs through The Kundalini Research Institute from programs in Los Angeles and Colorado, and in the latter various teaching positions.
Level 1 Competed Trainings are, specifically: Kriya and Meditation: The foundation of Kundalini Yoga as taught by Yogi Bhajan® The theory and practice of Kundalini Yoga kriyas (yoga sets), asanas, and mudras. Explore the nature of the mind and its training through Kundalini Yoga meditations, mantras, and pranayam (breathing techniques). Humanology and Philosophy: The Lifestyle of a Kundalini Yoga Teacher, including the history and tradition of Kundalini Yoga, as well as the underlying philosophy behind all yogic practices. The technologies of Kundalini Yoga as they apply to healing and humanology (the science of daily living), including diet, nutrition, and relationships. Anatomy & Physiology: Essentials of Yogic and Functional Anatomy, includes traditional Western anatomy, its purpose and function, including the respiratory, nervous, immune, musculoskeletal, circulatory, endocrine, and digestive systems and their relation to the practice and teaching of yoga. Also Yogic anatomy and the energy systems of the body including the chakras, nadis, pranas and vayus, and the ten yogic bodies. Consciousness of a Teacher: Virtues and Values of Living in the Golden Chain, includes the skills and techniques to become an effective instructor, including practical strategies for teaching beginners, ethical guidelines, curriculum development, and the transformational role of the teacher in developing a successful yoga practice. The Master’s Touch: Cultivating a Connection to the Master, connecting with Yogi Bhajan through DVD classes and study, and The Practicum: Teaching from Day One, practical experience instructing a yoga class under the supervision of a KRI Yoga Teacher Trainer, receiving written evaluation and student feedback.
Level 2 Completed Trainings Include Mind and Meditation, Vitality and Stress, Conscious Communication, Life Cycles and Life Styles, and Authentic Relationships.
Level 3 Completed Trainings include The 21 Stages of Meditation.
Karuna is also certified in Radiant Child Yoga, one of the first child, and pre-natal yoga training programs worldwide, developed by pioneer Shakta Khalsa. She has also co-authored a number of articles on the relationship of the Yogas and the on the meditation and spiritual practices across the Great Traditions. These have appeared in The Contemplative Journal as well as in the Light on Light family of magazines. Her manual for Yoga and Lifestyle will appear in 2020.
Expanding the Presence of Interspirituality
We look forward to expanding Rev. Shannon Winters’ concept of Interspiritual Conversation Cafés to additional local communities and globally online. These conversation cafes are an accepting and safe circle for exploring, sharing, and discussing spirituality, religious world wisdom traditions, spiritual experiences, spiritual practices, and more, in open and heart-centered conversation. All beliefs and wisdom tradition pathways are welcome and Shannon facilitates from an interspiritual and integral perspective, connecting the discussion through the mystic heart. Group members are welcome to come as they are, just as they are, where ever they may be along their own journeys.
Continuing the Legacy and Global Activities of Interspirituality
We welcome the opportunity of the Light on Light Family of Magazines and The Interspiritual Dialogue in further expanding the legacy and work of the interspiritual vision and message.
